During the Hungary-Greece tour the stars of the Maxxis FIM EnduroGP World Championship had to take on two completely different KTM Enduro Tests. Whilst the Hungarian route required good technique and a lot of precision between the trees, Grevena’s Greek test gave a chance to attack at top speed... all of which served to add more spice to this year’s Mika Ahola "Brave One" Trophy!
NAMBOTIN, GARCIA & GUARNERI Winners
It is perhaps not surprising that, after his double win in EnduroGP, Christophe NAMBOTIN (F – KTM) made his mark in the “MABOT” in Paradfürdo. But the triple World Champion had a troubling time of it in Greece (13/-).
Meanwhile Honda RedMoto rider Davide GUARNERI (I) ramped up his results during the 2-week tour. 7th and 15th in Hungary, he went on to finish 4th on Saturday in Grevena, before dominating head and shoulders above the rest on Sunday…
Spanish phenomenon Josep GARCIA (E – KTM) took top spot on the first day in Greece and now lies just 21 points behind Trophy leader: Steve HOLCOMBE (GB – Beta)!
The Factory Beta rider, though not putting in a dazzling performance on this back-to-back tour, showed a lot of consistency (2/5/5/9) and protects his advantage against nearest rival Loïc LARRIEU (F – Yamaha) with a comfortable gap of 15 points.
It is also worth noting the strong performances of the Brits Jamie MCCANNEY (Yamaha – 5/4/2/3) and Nathan WATSON (KTM – 6/3/3/2), as well as the first points scored by Mathias BELLINO (F – Husqvarna), who finally returned after injury. And the good performance of Junior class points leader Davide SORECA (I – Honda RedMoto).
This Hungarian-Greek tour offered up a great battle against the clock for the coveted Mika Ahola « Brave One » Trophy. And although Steve HOLCOMBE remains at the top, the competition is getting tighter, and LARRIEU, GARCIA, MCCANNEY & NAMBOTIN are all on the charge and capable of snatching the « Brave One » belt. We’ll meet again in two weeks’ time, in Castelo Branco (Portugal), for the 6th round of this trophy, which is much sought after by the riders!
Provisional Classification: 1. Steve HOLCOMBE 118pts ; 2. Loïc LARRIEU 103 pts ; 3. Josep GARCIA 97pts ; 4. Jamie MCCANNEY 96pts ; 5. Christophe NAMBOTIN 93pts ; 6. Eero REMES 72pts ; 7. Nathan WATSON 71pts; 8. Matthew PHILLIPS 54pts; 9. Jaume BETRIU 45pts; 10. Davide GUARNERI 43pts…
